I…am not entirely sure what is being cut in the last panel, but it looks like one of the backpack straps…which only reinforces my ‘they do not want to kill them theory’. (Well that and the little fact that they held the big guy (terrible with names, sorry) instead of just stabbing him in the back).
Which, once again, begs the question, what they actually want.
They could well be the guardians of the medallion who already failed to protect it once. (Potentially leading to the rumored flood)
Which could make this thing into a test…they sense the presence of the other medallions and seek to ask them for help, but only after seeing if they can hold their own…or maybe because they don’t know how to do anything but fight.
I mean, they clearly aren’t big talkers, maybe they aren’t even capable of talking at all…but if I follow this trail of thought, once they’re all disarmed and stuff, someone will walk up to them, saying something like, ‘That will be enough’ and explain what’s going on.
