Um, yeah, touching the lap (or the chest area) of a Lady you’re not married or at least engaged to, even if only to help a mishap you caused is…really not ‘necessary’.
I do get Cal’s attitude though.
You don’t have to be jealous or lonely to get ticked off by someone causing a ruckus at dinner.
I have a very similar situation almost every evening, courtesy of my 7 year old son, who also likes has a different set of priorities than those who’d like to ask him to sit down and take some time to eat.

Jealous, or annoyed that you’re making everyone look like sleaze bags on your first day in town… Like it or not your behaviour reflects on the group.
