Actually I hypothesized about their nature a few pages back, when the party was first captured.
I mean, how else but with magical creatures who simply don’t have any choice but do his bidding would that guy stay in power?
It’s not like the people like him or anything and regular guards/soldiers might very well get fed up with him really quickly.
But then again, that’s the thing about magical creatures…if the artifact that controls them should, for whatever reason, get destroyed or otherwise invalidated, they might well remember that their ‘boss’ didn’t treat them very well.
It’s on the EOL actually, Nr. 48.
‘I will treat any beast which I control through magic or technology with respect and kindness. Thus if the control is ever broken, it will not immediately come after me for revenge.’
