But really, to actually answer the question, ‘Why, to tick you off, of course!’
‘If only I could just strangle you’…he wants to, but cannot.
This suggests that he needs the bird to be around for something.
Cause for some reason I don’t think he ‘can’t do it’, because he loves animals so very much.
To strengthen my theory, there’s another fact: If he hates the bird so much but cannot (doesn’t want to) kill it, why isn’t he giving it away or locking it away somewhere out of earshot?
Surely the palace is big enough to find a nice little chamber to keep the bird in.
Surely that already occurred to him…yet he didn’t do it.
Which strongly suggests that he not only needs the bird alive, but also right there in his throne room.
All will be revealed! 😀
Because it wasn’t to be free (as a bird).
